Fidelis Fabrication, LLC

With extensive experience in the welding industry and marketing, Garrett and Amanda Coleman were ready to strike out on their own and start a welding and fabrication business. With minimal entrepreneurial experience, they sought the advice of Lori Logan, long-time business advisor at Sam Houston State University Small Business Development Center (SHSU/SBDC).

The Garretts were pursuing purchasing an existing building, land and welding business in the downtown area of New Waverly, Texas. Logan assisted the Coleman’s with the purchasing of the business, completion of a business plan, cash flow projections and general start-up needs including financial planning. 

The clients made the decision to secure lending in the form of owner-finance for $350,000. They also invested $40,000 of their own money into the business and have been able to start the business, creating four full-time jobs.

The Garrets credit the SHSU SBDC and Logan for their successful start, and are thankful for their guidance.

“What the SBDC does is invaluable,” said Amanda Garrett. “They’re able to introduce you to opportunities and great resources. It’s hard to quantify the value of that.”
